Once again, our annual Show & Shine event, held of 2 August at the Gabriola Agi Hall, was a highlight of the club year: a great community event enjoyed by islanders and the many visitors here for the long weekend. This year, we had 57 registered vehicles on show: 36 member vehicles, and 21 guests, including 13 from off-island. During the event, we signed-up two new memberships.
For the second year in a row, the people’s choice award went to Grant Close’s handsome red 1941 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup truck.
The 1st runner-up award went to visitor Robert McMillin’s elegant 1959 Jaguar 3.4 Mark 1.
The plaque for the 2nd runner-up award went to return visitor Steve Harris, who this year brought a beautifully restored 1930 Avon.
Thanks once again to all the volunteers who made this such a great event, to the Gabriola Lions and Shae Can Bake for providing food, DJ Brian McMahon for the music, and to the Gabriola Fire Department staff who were on hand with one of their trucks and also sprayed down the dusty parking area for us before the show.
